How to: Set-up Multi-Factor Authentication with an Authenticator App

Summary

Please follow the instructions below to set-up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for your NetID account using the Microsoft Authenticator App as the security method.


Setting up MFA:

  1. Sign into your Account using your BC credentials
  2. Select the Security Info option as shown below:

  3. Select the option to Add sign-in method and you will be presented with a drop-down menu of options as shown below:

Authentication Method - Authenticator App

  1. You may choose the method that you are most comfortable with from the list of options (for this example, we will be choosing the Microsoft Authenticator app). For Faculty and Staff, please contact our Service Desk for a security key
  2. Once you select the Authenticator app as your method, click Add and you will be then prompted to download the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone (Apple App store: Microsoft Authenticator on the App Store (apple.com), Google Play store: Microsoft Authenticator - Apps on Google Play
  3. Once installed, click Next
  4. You will then be prompted to open the Microsoft Authentication app to scan a QR code to connect the Authenticator app with your Bellevue College account. After you scan the code, click Next
  5. You will then be prompted to approve the notification in your Authenticator app by entering the number being presented on the screen
  6. Once approved, you will be authenticated and securely signed into your account!
