WordPress Mayflower Theme: Display Employees using Staff Page Functionality

Summary

Our website includes the functionality to display employees in an informative, easy to manage way. You can add and edit employees through the ‘Staff’ section of the wordpress dashboard.  If you do not see the staff section on your site, it may be disabled. You can enable this staff functionality through the Appearance > Customize area of the website.

Choose What Page to Display Staff on

You can display the members of staff you create in the staff section on any page of your website. Note that this page should be mostly blank, as the staff listings will appear below any content that is on the page.

When you have decided which page you wish the employee listings to appear on, follow these steps to allow them to appear.

  1. Open the page in edit view
  2. Ensure that the permalink of the page is not ‘staff’ (this causes a namespace conflict). You can view and set the permalink underneath the main page title when editing a page.
  3. On the main right hand options sidebar, under ‘Templates’, selectStaff Page
  4. Click Update

Your page will now display any entries in the staff section.

Choose Page Layout for Staff Section

There are two possible layouts for the staff section. One is a list, the other shows names and images in a grid format, and allows you to click for full information. This allows divisions and departments with large numbers of employees to display them in a more concise way.

Layout can be changed by following these steps:

  • From the wordpress dashboard, hover over Appearance on the main navigation sidebar
  • Select ‘Customize’
  • Select ‘Mayflower General Settings’
  • Use the Staff Page Layout dropdown menu to select what layout you wish
  • Select Save & Publish
