Summary

Sometimes you might see an error message in Canvas, it is always a good idea to notify your instructor that you have run into an issue. You may not be the only student in the class seeing the error message. Below we have listed the more common error messages in Canvas, what they mean, and what actions you should take. If none of the following suggestions work, please contact our Service Desk for further assistance.

Either your username or password were incorrect.

  • This typically means that your password has expired, it expires every 120 days. We suggest resetting your password at the beginning of every quarter to avoid running into this error when you are trying to access class materials.

  • You may need to clear your cache, you may have an old password stored. See How to Clear Cache on a Mac, or How to Clear Cache on a PC.

You are trying to launch insecure content from within a secure site (canvas). Some internet browsers may prevent this content from loading.

  • Usually this means that the link is not loading within Canvas, but you should still be able to open the link in a new window. You have two options for opening in a new window.
    • Click on the title of the page (the text will be in white font with a grey background).
    • Click on the black arrow next to the title.
